When it comes to changing your life you have to change your routine and habits. Most of us know this, but don’t want to face it, especially when it comes down to the action of it all. It takes surrender and sacrifice, letting go of those things that we hold so close. Sometimes it’s a video game (Jack), sometimes it’s the right food rather than the wrong, and sometimes it’s a person, it’s all relative. Jack let go of the things that weren’t serving him. He showed how some hard work can not only get the weight off, but it can open many other doors, and the possibilities are endless. Here’s to Jack. You are the real deal buddy.

It's funny how we go through life and things change so much. All it takes is one day, one minute, or even a second and everything in life is turned around. Sometimes these changes are good and we can appreciate them for being exactly that...Read more about Jessie Pavelka

Jack is a true inspiration! I’m lucky that I don’t really need to lose weight (well, a wee bit wouldn’t hurt!) but there are plenty of other things in my life I need to change. Watching the strength & tenacity Jack showed has given me the kick up the butt I need! Well done Jack, and thanks for having the courage to share your story. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series Jesse & you’re more than welcome to come to Scotland anytime to give me a butt kicking, lol! R x
Hi Jessie,
The (Jack) episode of your Year to Change my Life, was just shown here in the Uk.
I watched it with my wife, to help us come to understand how we can help my 20 year old stepdaughter who is 20 stone, some 11 stone overweight, and always giving attitude, when the truth is presented to her. She has increased her weight by 2 stone in the last year.
I have calculated her BMR at 2276 using (Katch-McArdle lean body mass formula)
BMR (men and women) = 370 + (21.6 X lean mass in kg)
She weighs 283lbs, 45% body fat = 127lbs and her Lean body mass at 55% = 156lbs
I’m an Ultra Marathon runner, and my wife and I both eat healthy and exercise regularly, but cant encourage Jessica to lose the attitude and up the exercise to save her own life.
Jessie, next time you are in the UK could you let me know, I love the results you have achieved, and this is out of my area of expertease, should I have her tested like you did with Jack to ensure there are no other issues going on, before getting a PT involved here in the UK? problem is how do I know if they have the right plan for her. I think we only have one shot at this to get her to trust someone after her other weak attempts.
I know you must be swamped with similar requests, so if you find time to reply personally then that would be, failing that could you recommend the guy you used with Jack, i appreciate Jacks plan may not fit our Jessica and you would have formulated that specifically for him.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, and congratulations on an inspirational show “A year to save my life” is doing just that for so many people already.
kind regards, Andy

Hi Jessie,
I have watched a lot of “losing weight” shows, but I have to say OBESE: A YEAR TO SAVE MY LIFE is absolutely the best. I love how there is no coddling, no giving in to pity or sympathy, but just a clear and committed focus on uncovering and facing why a human being would eat themselves into such an unhealthy state.
I am losing weight (again) myself, and am now down to 190 from 213. In this post today, you talk about letting things go and really embracing the changes necessary to build a better life. I am taking that sentiment on board: January is proving to be a month of BIG CHANGES for me. My goal is to be 136 by July 31st.
So thanks, I am loving the series, and really am enjoying your posts.

Jessie, i need help. I’m 17, almost 18, and i weigh 19 stone 9 and a half pounds. I don’t have the motivation to do exercise. I eat all the wrong things, and i can’t seem to stop my self. No matter what fitness equipment/games i buy, i can’t get the motivation to use them. Please give me some sort of advice.
Jack is a genuine inspiration for turning a life around. What a brilliant guy and I only wish the best for him! His dedication has certainly encouraged me to carry on with my plan to make myself healthy again. Jessie – thanks for the positive way of looking at becoming healthy and promoting a lifestyle change. Your great outlook is refreshing and appreciated!
